Road Cyclists

Cycling routes around Oz en Oisans - Oz en Oisans is a great base camp for road cyclists to explore the six Oisans valleys. The scenery is amazing but the routes can be demanding. During a week’s stay riders can tick off many of the cycling world’s most famous mountain climbs such as the Col du Lautaret, Col du Galibier and the Croix de Fer which are often used by the Tour De France

Tour De France – The region often hosts the Tour De France. With so many world famous cycling routes found locally, it is no surprise that the region regularly hosts a stage of the Tour De France, often finishing with the 21 hairpin bends of the Alpe d’Huez, so easily accessible from Oz.

La Marmotte - This annual amateur event held at the beginning of July attracts up to 8,000 competitors. The 175km route starts in Bourg d’Oisans, goes over the Col du Glandon, Col du Telegraphe and Col du Galibier, and finishes in Alpe d’Huez. The Marmotte includes over 5,180 metres of climbing and Oz is used by many competitors as a base.

Alpe d’Huez Time Trial – Every Thursday in July and August at 10am an official amateur time trial on this famous climb starts at the tourist office in Bourg d’Oisans. Competitors receive an official time certificate and prizes are given to the winners of various categories.

Downhill and Freeride

Oz offers direct access to the heart of Alpe d’Huez via the Poutran lift. The whole area is filled with more than 250km of tracks and marked trails that are suitable for all levels and types of mountain biking, downhill, endure, freeride and cross country.

Lifts open from early July to the end of August.

Megavalanche is a mountainbike downhill marathon style event that mixes gravity-assisted excitement with enduro levels of fitness, guaranteed to test both nerve and physique.
